Do you ever get frustrated trying to get a deal? A book published, a recording contract, a booking agent? Are you just running into one brick wall after another?
Getting published seemsto mirror what I see every day in the music industry. Artists need a booking agent to get dates but the only way a booking agent will take them on is if they already have a full datebook. Getting distribution for music was the same way. In order to get distribution, you needed to have demand for your music. If enough folks went into the music store asking for a particular artist, the distributors came looking for the artist.
Then you have the flip side. What if you do get your book/cd in hundreds of stores and they don’t sell? What happens next is not a pretty picture!
So, the whole concept of building a following is nothing more than the artist building a fanbase. If you can deliver sales of product or put butts in the seats of a venue it will happen. If not… Don’t give up that day job just yet!
